Need Advice on a Family Members Feature for My Health App

Hi Everyone,

I'm building a Personal Health Record (PHR) app using Flutter.

The main purpose of the app is to help individuals manage and track their own medical history in one place. Users can:

Store medical reports
Create consultation logs
Track medications and vaccinations
Organize health records
View health analytics

I'm trying to keep the app minimal, simple, and easy to use.

The feature I'm currently stuck on is the Family Members section.

I want users to be able to manage health records for their family members (parents, spouse, children, etc.), but I'm not sure what the best approach is.

Some ideas I have are:

A single user creates a family profile and stores everyone's health records under their own account.
Each family member has their own account and profile, and they can share their health records with another family member after giving explicit permission.
Another simpler approach that I'm not considering yet.

My concern is that if I implement account linking and record sharing, it will require multiple user accounts, authentication, sharing permissions, access control, and consent management. While this seems like the correct long-term solution, it also makes the app much more complex than I originally planned.

I'm also not sure whether implementing health record sharing between users could create any Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, or app review issues when publishing to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, since it involves sharing sensitive personal health information.

On the other hand, if I simply let users create family member profiles under their own account (without separate accounts), the implementation stays simple and lightweight, but I'm not sure if this is the best design from a scalability and privacy perspective.

My goals are:

Keep the app simple and lightweight.
Avoid changing the current app flow too much.
Respect user privacy.
Keep the architecture flexible enough to support more advanced features in the future.

Has anyone implemented a similar feature in a Personal Health Record app or any other application?

I'd love to know which approach you chose, why you chose it, and whether there are any better alternatives that I should consider.
